Family Tradition

29th September 2009 interview with Peter Jennings Scholar Nodira Makhmudov. As a child, he had little interest Nodira Makhmudov always consult a doctor when she grew up and despite the fact that both parents were doctors. Only after he emigrated to the United States from the Central Asian country of Uzbekistan, who changed his mind. Only 16 when he arrived here as an international student, she initially lived with a family in Kansas and then moved to New York after six months. MyHe was not fluent in English and I felt very alone, with no real sense of how to get a job or where they go to school, she recalls. I lacked confidence and had difficulty interacting with people. Rapid fast path forward four years to 2009: Makhmudov completed his first semester at BMCC with a grade point average of 3.72 and a full calendar of volunteer activities. Together with two classmates BMCC, have recently adopted the 2009 Peter Jennings Scholarship Laurel Award, which recognizes the achievementsCUNY exceptional students who have obtained a general equivalent diploma, a special program with CUNY. Perhaps more significant is Makhmudov have a clear vision for the next part of their lives degree: from BMCC, transfer to a pre-med, then medical school. For some reason I did not want to become a doctor when I was still living in Uzbekistan, but that changed after I came here, says Makhmudov.
